371 Hp? 375 Hp? How to choose the HOWO truck that suits you?
371 Hp? 375 Hp? How to choose the HOWO truck that suits you?
Sinotruk's Howo series is sought after equally in construction, mining and long-distance trucking for its rock-solid reliability and reasonable price. Two of the most sought-after horsepower options are 371 horsepower and 375 horsepower. Here's what you need to know before you purchase.
Power & Fuel Economy
The two engines belong to the same family and are compliant with emissions regulations. The 375-HP engine delivers a bit more maximum power and torque, resulting in better acceleration and hill-climbing ability on steep or rough roads. The 371-HP engine burns less fuel under light loads or highway driving, cutting operating expenses in the long term.
How to Identify the Engine
As the two motors look very similar, the easiest means to tell them apart is to examine the factory markings:
Engine nameplate – Small metal nameplate on the engine (typically on the valve cover or fuel pump side) indicates the model and output. "371 HP / 273 kW" typically applies to models WD615.47 or D12.42, whereas "375 HP / 276 kW" typically applies to WD615.95E or D12.42E.
Torque rating – The 375-HP model generally comes with 50–100 Nm more torque; this is also given on the spec sheet or in the vehicle papers.
VIN or Certificate – The truck certificate or VIN-related data sheet ensures accurate engine type and output.
Typical Use Cases
Model | Power & Torque (approx.) | Best for |
Howo 371 HP | 273 kW, slightly lower torque | Long-haul, moderate loads, flatter routes, lower cost & fuel use |
Howo 375 HP | 276 kW, higher torque | Heavy loads, hills or mining areas, more pulling power |

If you mostly run highway miles with light to medium freight, the 371-HP Howo is adequate with lower purchase and operating cost. If your use entails a lot of heavy hauling or hilly terrain, the 375-HP engine gives extra muscle and relieves engine stress.
A simple scan of the engine plate or the truck's documentation will tell you exactly what version you have before you — and help you decide the one that best fits your business.
